Program Summary
The Personal Support Worker program was
developed as part of the Ontario Government’s initiative to
reform
long-term care and community support services. These
services
are
provided to people in long-term care facilities, group homes
and those
living at home in the community. This program standardizes
training and
provides a solid educational base for workers who provide
long-term
care and support services in both institutional and community
settings.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates
of the Personal Support Worker program may look for employment
in a
number of areas including long term care facilities, home care
agencies, with boards of education-special needs children,
senior
citizen recreation centers, hospitals, group homes, respite
and
palliative care centers.
Prerequisites
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma,
General Education Diploma or Mature Student Status
- Photo ID/SIN document verification

- Successful interview with the Registrar
- Must be willing and able to do shift work
- Medical Certificate indicating that the student is
free of communicable disease and has an up to date
immunization record
- Submission of a negative CPIC
- Passing score in NACC literacy test
Graduation Requirements
An overall average of 70% must be obtained to graduate.
A
minimum mark of 70% must be achieved to pass any given module.
Successfully complete all placements and pass the NACC Final
Exam.
